Do not put a period after contracted words,
including nicknames: as, Bill, Tom, can't, hadn't, etc.

=38. Side-Heads
Put a period after side-heads, including figures at
the beginning of a paragraph. Compare, for example, the period after
Side-Heads at the beginning of this paragraph.
